Rumors aboard Mashape's spaceship

You signed up to the API analytics tool (Galileo) and you’re wow-ing at the possibilities, but exactly how much can this tool help you in your day to day job? I am going to analyze what business questions can be answered from an API perspective as a manager, developer, user or as a mixture of each. Then I will dig into the metrics that will be available to us and formulate relevant questions. Finally I will create a dashboard report using the required data.

How do I start?

Analytics are not simply “pretty graphs” to show your coworkers…

Last year I wrote a review of API editors available on the market named “A review of all most common API editors”; this year however, I decided to concentrate on API-focused tools released in 2015. A list of tools that made an impact on the way I work and play with APIs. In the breakdown below, I’ll explain what each tool does, what you can use it for and how it fits in my workflow. If you don’t have time to read the whole article just read the “What it replaces in my workflow” part of each tool…

KONG, the king of open-source API management platforms, is in my (totally not biased) opinion an extremely cool tool. From startups to enterprises, companies have tons of APIs (growth of APIs within Mashape) and they need to be managed in a simple and effective way. Instead of building functionalities into each microservice KONG deploys a solution for managing them based on your needs – focus on excelling at microservices instead of the boring stuff.

Microservices just like sushi

When I was explaining microservices to my cousin, and why they’re cool, I told him to imagine microservices like awesome…

While I was doing research to understand which email APIs were the best, I learned a lot about this market space. So here are my thoughts on using email service providers.

10 Reason to use email APIs

Easy: One REST API call and an email is sailing through the web on its way to a destination Cheap: It’s likely that it will cost you less to use an API than rent hardware…

Wikipedia defines Machine Learning as “a branch of artificial intelligence that deals with the construction and study of systems that can learn from data.” (If you arrived here looking for how to add or list an API to Mashape, you check out the Tutorials section here). Below is a compilation of APIs that have benefited from Machine Learning in one way or another, we truly are living in the future so strap into your rocketship and prepare for blastoff. OCR recognition service – Ocrapiservice.com is an cloud based optical recognition engine. We take images as input and we reply…

Rest Api con @orliesaurus http://t.co/DhMsqZgCC0 pic.twitter.com/7gXAFFIfMy — Michele Nasti (@micnasti) March 27, 2015 Mashape recently had the pleasure of speaking at Codemotion, a developer-led conference held in Rome on 27th-28th March, with our Mashaper, @orliesaurus, in attendance. The conference, held at one of Rome’s many universities, was jam-packed, with a huge crowd of talented developers in attendance. Most of the attendees poured into Rome from all over Italy, with many even flying in from abroad to participate. IoT, 3D printing, microservices and remote working were just some of the hot topics the conference focused on.

Every other weekend, there is a hackathon to attend. Not all hackathons are the same though. Attendees, food, sponsors, ideas, and location all vary constantly and bring a unique vibe. Engineering your idea from 0 till the time you demo to everyone else on stage is a unique feeling. If you’ve never been to a hackathon, you should go. In my life, I have attended tons of hackathons around the globe. I used to go to one a week in my earlier days; sometimes, I split myself between two hackathons too! I have always been impressed by the passion…

Earlier this month, I attended the APIdays conference in Sydney, organized by Saul Caganoff of Sixtree and supported by the ever present Mehdi Medjaoui. Mashape is a recurring face at APIdays, where we’ve been a supporter of the event from the beginning. The conference consists of two tracks over two days. Experts, evangelists and enthusiasts were welcome to attend and learn about what’s happening in the API space.   APIDays Sydney near Redfern hosted in an old repurposed train station   I personally enjoyed talks that featured topics less often discussed in the API landscape, such as security…

What a night!

Local hackers in Kochi (major city of Kerala, India) attended our first Mashape Hackathon in India this last weekend of Jan 10, 2015. Thank you everyone for coming and warming up the API world with your brilliance!   Thanks for conducting the mashape hackathon in India and that too in Kochi. I have attended many hackathons in India but this one was really amazing. The organizing part was perfectly done and was executed successfully. – Bonny (Attendee) Besides being the first hackathon hosted entirely by Mashape, it was also our first official event in India, hence making…

We love working with APIs at Mashape, and we love sharing with our community new tools that make your life easier when consuming APIs. Today, we’re taking a look at POSTMAN (Free edition), a GUI powered API client and HTTPie a powerful CLI replacement (or addition) for cURL.

1. POSTMAN

POSTMAN is a compelling HTTP client for APIs built by Abhinav Asthana. With POSTMAN you can consume APIs in a straightforward way, solving the complexity of complex HTTP query and parsing. You can download POSTMAN here: http://www.getpostman.com/. As the website states, this tool has been the highest rated…
