API Crafters Meetup!

Last week, we organized our first API Crafters Meetup since the move to our new office, and it was awesome to see so many people interested in APIs showing up. Lots of stories were shared during the networking session, and it was heartwarming to hear different war stories and implementations from various perspectives. The first speaker was Tyler from Klout. He explained in detail how Klout consumes other APIs to generate data to power their own API, which in turn generates a never-ending loop of data being exchanged between platforms. @harmophone presenting the KLOUT API architecture at the first @mashape meetup! #awesome #api pic.twitter.com/AvI5smSJ39...

Global Hack featuring Mashape at NTT DoCoMo in Tokyo, Japan!

Last weekend, NTT DoCoMo Innovation partnered with Mashape and hosted Global Hack. Global Hack is one of the first hackathons in Tokyo, where Japanese developers spent the weekend hacking to win a trip for 4 to Silicon Valley. Although hackathon culture is just beginning to develop in Japan, the event was well received. Final presentations were done in true hacker spirit; with no slideshows allowed, and featuring only demos of the hack to judges. The most creative hack I saw was a stuffed animal controlled by a phone that could recognize your voice, face and tell you the weather. It...

AT&T Developer Program Online Hackathon! @attdeveloper

An online hackathon from our friends at the AT&T Developer Program!  Check it out below: Alright hackers, Here is the online hackathon challenge: Build a multiplayer game that involves two or more phones. Why? Haven’t you wanted to play games with the people in the same room but couldn’t? Something as simple as Tap of War would be awesome. Use Unity, phonegap + pubnub or the framework of your choice to build the app and remember that the fun factor matters the most in this competition especially if you can support massive multiplayer mode. HumanAPI hackathon finishes with 30 health-focused apps

Last weekend we had the privilege of being a sponsor to the HumanAPI Hackathon.  The Human API is a platform that lets developers easily and securely integrate health data into their apps.  It lets you aggregate all your health information from other providers/APIs and selectively access health information in groups (e.g. Activities, Blood glucose, etc).  This gives developers a holistic view of a person’s health information that can be used to contribute to the progress in the medical/health industry through apps. The 24-hackathon ended with 30 creative projects ranging from a ‘Mommy’ app (that constantly nags you to get...

How to find app ideas for hackathons

This post is brought to you in part by Geeklist, a vibrant platform for geeks to discover, connect and share the great work they have done.  Check out the upcoming ‘Hack for Good’ global mobile hackathon this coming June 28th – 30th. We love hackathons!  We love seeing what developers can do with APIs.  Just look at this, this, this, this, this, this, and this! However with hackathons running almost every day, it’s easy to run out of app ideas.  What if your app was already created in some hackathon that you didn’t know about?  Or not sure if there’s...
