Rumors aboard Mashape's spaceship

Last week, we organized our first API Crafters Meetup since the move to our new office, and it was awesome to see so many people interested in APIs showing up. Lots of stories were shared during the networking session, and it was heartwarming to hear different war stories and implementations from various perspectives. The first speaker was Tyler from Klout. He explained in detail how Klout consumes other APIs to generate data to power their own API, which in turn generates a never-ending loop of data being exchanged between platforms. @harmophone presenting the KLOUT API architecture at the first…

Last weekend, NTT DoCoMo Innovation partnered with Mashape and hosted Global Hack. Global Hack is one of the first hackathons in Tokyo, where Japanese developers spent the weekend hacking to win a trip for 4 to Silicon Valley. Although hackathon culture is just beginning to develop in Japan, the event was well received. Final presentations were done in true hacker spirit; with no slideshows allowed, and featuring only demos of the hack to judges. The most creative hack I saw was a stuffed animal controlled by a phone that could recognize your voice, face and tell you the weather.…

Dota2 vs. League of Legends – Which do you prefer?

Here at Mashape we love online games, most Mashapers are avid online gamers, we all have our favorite style and secret strategies to beat our enemies online. Of course we love to take sides, we love joking around about Marco’s camping skills on Counter Strike, and Nijiko’s pride in last hitting creeps. var games = ["Quake3","WoW","Dota2","LoL","CS1.6","UT"]; function wePlayedIt(gamesArray){ for(i = 0; i < gamesArray.length; i++) { var p = document.createElement("p"); p.innerHTML = "We played " + gamesArray[i]; document.body.appendChild(p); } } (wePlayedIt(games)); Whether FPS, RTS, MOBA or MMO, we’ve probably played…

Hey Mashapers! We recently rolled out a new feature on Mashape that is going to revolutionize the way you add APIs on Mashape. Many of you have requested this feature, and we are super stoked to announce that you can now invite developers to consume and interact with your private/ secret APIs. As the owner of the API, you can handpick from a list of Mashape users and reveal your private API to the few selected secret agents. Finding the invite option is easy. Simply click on “Invite devs to your API” at the bottom left of the settings menu…

Monetizing an API is a good way of generating revenue quickly. Ask Nijiko! Sometimes the easiest services are the ones that generate the most traffic and traction. At Mashape, we give everyone a chance of quickly monetizing their API without having to worry about any technical aspects.

Creating an API on the fly with BlockSpring

We’re super happy to see more people building tools to simplify the access to building APIs, one of the services that was featured on HackerNews recently is BlockSpring’s API builder. At the moment they only support three languages (Python, Ruby and R) but…

We have made it easier to consume multiple APIs in one unified experience through Applications for API Consumers. Applications are basically a container where you group all the APIs you’re consuming to get a quick overview, and control them all. With “Applications”, you can:
Manage And Monitor All Your Consumed APIs From A Simple Dashboard
Track Volume, Latency or Error Rates In A Snap
    Issue, And Re-Generate API Keys
Move From Testing To Production Environments

Hey Mashapers, We just launched our new version of Mashape (internally, we called it “Mashape 5″) not too long ago. In this new version, we’ve redesigned certain flows on the site which may be different from the previous version (“Mashape 4″). Specifically, we’ve revamped the API documentation design and changed it to a new 3-column layout. To help you guys out, we’ve written up a guide on how to document and publish an API on Mashape. API providers, what are you waiting for? Documenting and publishing your API is just 3 easy steps: Filling in the basic information to
