In the United States, Facebook has litterally overtaken Google (Visits) in January 2010; according to Compete.

This is the reason everyone and their uncle are suddenly "social media experts", which is about as dumb as calling yourself an "email expert" ..But I digress
Search and (its companion) advertizing will immediately be affected, ..not marketing (just yet), as most people seem to think. And, no advertizing and marketing are not the same thing. Thus Google Wave, and Google Buzz, and Google whatever else. They saw the trend at least 18 months ago and started scrambling, and I assume we've all seen the botched results of Google's mad dash to get in on this new game..
